Yellowstone Family Reunion

The second weekend in July the Willis family always has a family reunion and this year it was held in Yellowstone. I always love the beautiful scenery, wild animals, and interesting geysers/hot pots and this trip was no exception.

We particularly had great luck with the animals that we were able to see -- the highlight was when we got to see a GRIZZLY BEAR (don't worry we kept our distance)! We happened to stop off to see the petrified tree (good thing mom wanted to see it!) and in a little valley by the tree was the bear. It was relaxing in the shade beneath two trees and we would not have even seen it if there had not been tons of people and a few park rangers that were there watching. Then some people riding horses came up the trail that was quite close to where the bear was relaxing and made the bear a little nervous. He stood up and ran up the hill a little bit. This was good because we were able to get some good pictures of him. Once the horses moved on he went back to his spot under the tree. I was little worried for a minute about the people and the horses but the bear was happy to just stay away from them.

We also got to see a bull moose and this was a special treat because the rangers said that there are only 300 moose in the park and it is rare to actually see one. Rob also got to spend a lot of time working on his fly fishing skills in the rivers in and around the park. We had a very relaxing and fun weekend. Unfortunately, that is my last trip of the summer and I will now stick closer to home until baby arrives (we are so excited to meet her)!
